Lire ce billet en français →In the past, slavery was widely accepted. But over time, exploiters realized that feeding and housing these slaves was very expensive.
So to save money, they “freed” them. Having no money, since they were slaves their whole lives, they returned to their exploiters, asking for housing.
They were offered a salary, to work as before, to be able to have housing, food and clothing. Thus, the slaves resumed the same work, but cost less to the new “employers,” and the slaves had a totally illusory feeling of freedom, living even more in misery than before being freed.
