Everyone seems to agree that goldfish are stupid and that they only have three seconds of memory. These people would be disappointed to know the memory span of humans, barely higher.

A few seconds too.

But there’s long-term memory that compensates for this shortcoming, fooling us into thinking we remember everything. This memory, goldfish have it too, and they’re actually superior to most other fish. They can even recognize people in the room, just by the sound of their footsteps, vibrating the water in their aquarium.
